The MDT Elite muzzle brake is Jim's go-to muzzle brake for most of his rifles. It's reasonably priced, and very effective due to the 3 ports. In our testing, we see recoil reduction of about 35% using this brake.
You don't need shims to get this brake at the right position on your rifle because it has a nut on the back to help you get it set properly.
This muzzle brake will work on any rifle with a bullet diameter of 308 or smaller (so 300 win mag is fine, 6.5 creedmoor, 7 PRC, or whatever else will all work). You'll also need a threaded muzzle on your barrel that is threaded 5/8-24, which is the vast majority of hunting rifles (except some Browning rifles).
