Backstop vs Factory Remington Recoil Pads

The Backstop vs Factory Remington Recoil Pads

Remington has been building firearms since 1816—over two centuries of rifles and shotguns, and just about as many variations in stock shapes and recoil pad fitments. That long history is great for heritage… but not so great when you’re trying to find a recoil pad that actually fits your rifle. If you’ve ever ordered a few “close enough” pads hoping one would work, you already know how that usually goes: none of them quite line up, and now you’ve got a small pile of rubber disappointment.

Part of the challenge is that Remington hasn’t always kept things simple. Some models used one recoil pad shape for a few years, then quietly switched to a different shape—while keeping the same model name. Others, especially wood stocks, were designed for grind-to-fit pads because each stock can vary slightly. Translation: even if something should fit… it might not.

That’s exactly why we built Backstop recoil pads differently. Every fitment we offer is precision-made to match specific models and stock patterns—so it installs in about 60 seconds with no grinding, sanding, or guesswork. Just remove the old pad, screw on the new one, and you’re done. The tradeoff? We only make pads for stocks that are manufactured to consistent tolerances—but when we do, the fit is clean, exact, and looks like it came from the factory (if the factory actually cared about your shoulder).

We’ve done the homework to map out which Remington models match each fitment, so you don’t have to play the guessing game. Backstop offers a curated set of fitments that cover a wide range of Remington rifles and shotguns—without the trial-and-error headache.

To see if we’ve got your rifle covered, head over to the Backstop Recoil Pad page and enter your make and model. If it shows up, you’re good to go—we’ve got a precision fitment ready to ship.

And while we’re at it… not all factory Remington recoil pads are created equal. Some are decent. Some have a little give. And some feel like they were carved out of a bowling ball. Backstop pads are built to actually absorb recoil, not just politely acknowledge that it exists.

Don’t see your model listed? No problem. We’re constantly adding new fitments, so check back—we might have your rifle dialed in next.
