Browning Inflex vs Backstop Recoil Pad

Frankly, the Browning Inflex recoil pad is better than most factory recoil pads.

However, the Inflex still relies on a semi-rigid internal plastic structure with a thinner outer layer of gummy material. While it appears thick and cushioned, much of that volume doesn’t actually compress much under recoil. But at peak force—when the material is already partially compressed—it has limited additional give, which can make recoil feel sharper than desired.

The Backstop Recoil Pad takes a more advanced approach. It uses patented micro structures that manage recoil across the entire shot cycle. The top portion absorbs initial vibration, while the lower section is engineered to collapse at peak force—right when you need it most. A solid internal wall separates these zones, preventing early collapse.

Backstop pads are also tuned to your specific rifle and cartridge, rather than using a one-size-fits-all density like a factory recoil pad. A .300 Win Mag and a 6.5 Creedmoor produce very different recoil profiles, and Backstop accounts for that—helping reduce flinch and maintain a clearer sight picture.

In addition, Backstop offers hundreds of exact-fit options with no grinding required, and they’re significantly lighter, often less than half the weight of comparable pads. Each one also includes a protective storage cover to maintain its shape and performance over time.

Bottom line:

The Browning Inflex is a solid, functional factory pad. The Backstop Recoil Pad goes much further—delivering more effective recoil control, less weight, and a truly customized fit.
